💧 Hold off on lawn watering
The state's Weekly Lawn Watering Guide still shows no watering yet for Eagle Mountain. Cooler temps and recent moisture mean lawns aren't ready, and waiting a bit longer encourages deeper root growth heading into summer. If your lawn looks a little dry on top, it’s usually just the surface. The roots are fine with recent moisture.. More from the city.

🪖 Heads up on Thursday: military training, not an emergency
Expect more helicopter and aircraft activity than usual on Thursday, April 30. It's tied to a planned Utah National Guard exercise centered at Camp Williams. The city shared the notice last Thursday.

🏒 Friday May 1 is a big Parks and Rec day
Closing Friday:
Street Hockey registration for 6th to 8th grade. The 3rd to 5th grade program is already full.

Two items to know about at Tuesday's Planning Commission

The Planning Commission meets Tuesday, April 28, with the work session at 5:30 PM and the policy session at 6:30 PM. Two items stand out.

A new commercial center, and a major new road, across from Walmart

The 27-acre parcel at SR-73 and Spring Run Parkway, directly across from Walmart, is moving forward as Spring Run Plaza. Tuesday covers two pieces of it: a Phase 1 plan for six commercial lots, and the broader Master Development Agreement that sets the ground rules for how the rest of the site gets built over time.

The bigger story is the road. As part of this project, the developer is dedicating land for a new east-west arterial that's planned to eventually connect Eagle Mountain to Saratoga Springs. The full right-of-way is 122 feet wide, but the developer is only on the hook for a 59-foot section. If the city wants the rest built sooner, it'll need to fund the difference.

To make the commercial layout work, the agreement also grants a handful of exceptions to the standard zoning rules:

• Drive-throughs without bypass lanes, the side lane that lets a car exit if the line gets stuck or someone changes their mind

• Parking allowed between buildings and the street, instead of being tucked behind or beside them

• Tall retaining walls allowed in a single span, rather than stepped into shorter, terraced tiers

• Setbacks as small as 10 feet, with the landscape buffer along the property edge capped at 10 feet too

These are the trade-offs the city is weighing to land both the development and the road. If the commission forwards a recommendation Tuesday, both pieces still need to go to City Council.

Full agenda and packet

A new 30-foot setback for homes on the wildland edge

If you live, or plan to build, along Eagle Mountain's wildland edges (areas near undeveloped foothills and mountains), this one may apply to you. The city is proposing a rule that would require a 30-foot rear setback for homes on what the code calls a "Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Boundary Lot."

It's a fire-safety measure, recommended by Unified Fire Authority and the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire, and State Lands. It's also Eagle Mountain's response to Utah HB48, a 2025 state law requiring municipalities to adopt a Wildland Urban Interface code.

The 30 feet isn't absolute. If a lot would be impractical to build on under the rule, the Planning Director can approve a smaller setback, as long as the property uses other wildfire mitigations.

A separate amendment to the city's Concept Plan code is also on the agenda but is being tabled for future review.

Worth the Drive: Baby Animal Festival opens Friday

Baby Animal Festival at Curiosity Farms (part of Thanksgiving Point) opens Friday, May 1. Runs through the month, 9 AM to 8 PM, closed Sundays. Ticketed.

GameCraft and the Fayelight Festival

GameCraft, the Eagle Mountain game shop, is hosting the Fayelight Festival on Saturday, July 18. The team describes it as a mini Renaissance fair with a faerie theme: a vendor hall of local craftspeople, live performances, costumes, a cosplay contest, a photo booth, and a face painter.

A new single from Austin Whitney

Eagle Mountain's own Austin Whitney released a new country single, "I Dream Of You," on April 23. It's a personal song about love, family, and a simpler way of life.

You can listen on Spotify or Apple Music. Austin recently sat for an in-studio feature on KUTV's Fresh Living, and there's more of his work on his website.
