About Eagle Mountain Value

Who publishes this, why it exists, and how it pays for itself.

Who we are

Eagle Mountain Value is a local newsletter and website covering Eagle Mountain, Utah — the city council, the businesses, the calendar, and the decisions that land on your tax bill.

Why this exists

Eagle Mountain has roughly 77,000 residents and is growing about 6% a year. Since the Cedar Valley Sentinel closed in May 2026, it has had no dedicated local news outlet. Meanwhile the city is working through a property tax increase, a school district split, and a cluster of data centers with real consequences for water and power.

Those are decisions being made in public, in rooms most people cannot attend, recorded in documents most people will never open. The job here is to read them and tell you what happened.

Who runs it

Eagle Mountain Value is published by Colten McEwan, who lives in Eagle Mountain. One person writes it. There is no newsroom, no wire service, and no anonymous byline — if something on this site is wrong, there is exactly one person to hold responsible.

The promise

No partisanship. All the decisions that hit your house.

That is the whole editorial line. This site does not endorse candidates, does not run opinion columns, and does not treat a dissenting vote as a wrong vote. It reports what was proposed, who voted how, and what it costs you.

How it is funded

Everything on this site is free and always will be. There is no paywall and no subscriber-only tier. The site is supported by a small number of local sponsors, voluntary reader memberships, and featured listings in the business directory — each of which is disclosed, and none of which buys influence over coverage. The rules are written down in Ethics & independence, and they were written before the first sale.

What we publish, and when

  • A newsletter issue every Monday and Thursday, free to anyone who subscribes.
  • A preview of the city council agenda before each meeting, and a brief within 12 hours after.
  • Roughly one substantive local story a week.

Every past issue stays online and searchable in the Issue Library. Nothing gets quietly deleted.

What we do not do

No comment sections — the local Facebook groups already own that conversation and do it better. No job board, no classifieds, no forum, no user accounts — a business that wants to correct or claim its directory listing does it by email, which is why there is nothing to sign up for. Doing four things properly beats doing nine things badly, and this is a one-person operation with a real time budget.

Our policies

  • Corrections — how we fix mistakes, and every correction we have made.
  • How we use AI — where software drafts, and where it is never allowed near.
  • Ethics & independence — sponsorship, disclosure, and the line between them and the reporting.
  • Sources — the public records and feeds this site is built on.
  • Contact — how to reach us, and how to send a tip.
