Independence Day is just around the corner and we’ve got some fun stuff going on. Let’s jump straight into it.

Eagle Mountain's Independence Day celebration is on, and the weather could not be better. Here is everything happening this weekend.

Thursday, July 2 — Head to Cory B. Wride tonightCopy a link to this section#

Two things happening at the park this evening. The weekly Food Truck Rally runs 6–9 PM in the east parking lot. At 7 PM, the Community Services Board hosts a Reading of the Declaration of Independence at the large pavilion. Both are free.

Personal fireworks are banned citywide through July 5 — but the city's professionally managed show is not affected. Leave the fireworks to the pros this year.

• Farmers Market — 9 AM–1 PM morning hours, then back 8–10 PM with vendors, food, and a live DJ

• Kids Patriotic Parade — 8:30 PM; decorate a bike, scooter, or wagon and join the loop around the park

• Independence Day Fireworks — 8 PM, synchronized to music, free; marking both America's 250th birthday and Eagle Mountain's 30th anniversary

Good news heading into the holiday weekend! Containment has improved significantly on both fires closest to Eagle Mountain since Monday.

Iron Fire (Juab/Utah/Tooele Counties) — 41,842 acres, 95% contained as of July 1. All primary evacuations lifted June 28. Affected communities are at Level 1 "Ready" status. Firefighting resources are being reallocated to more active fronts.

Cherry Fire (Juab/Tooele Counties) — 34,252 acres, 76% contained as of July 2. Evacuation orders downgraded to Level 1 "Ready" for Eureka, Mammoth, Silver City, Lofgreen, and Vernon Reservoir. Cherry Creek Road remains closed; BLM closures west of Highway 6 in effect through July 6.

Cottonwood Fire (Beaver/Piute Counties) — 93,918 acres, 4% contained. The largest active wildfire in the United States, burning more than 100 miles south of Eagle Mountain. Approximately 150 structures destroyed including Eagle Point Resort.

Hastings Fire (Tooele County) — 26,422 acres, 100% contained. All evacuations and warnings lifted.

Eagle Mountain is not under evacuation and none of these fires pose a direct threat to the city.

One reminder heading into a holiday weekend near open land: unauthorized drones near active fire zones immediately ground all aerial firefighting operations. Under Utah law, interference carries a penalty of up to two years in prison.

Property tax increase reminder — your input matters.Copy a link to this section#

Eagle Mountain is proposing its first property tax increase since 2010. The revenue would go entirely toward the Sheriff contract, specifically to add deputies to keep pace with the city's growth.

For the average Eagle Mountain home (valued at $488,000), the proposed increase would bring the city's share of your property tax bill to roughly $38 per month ($456 per year). Currently, Eagle Mountain takes in about $12 per month ($147 per year) from a typical home.

Residents should review the proposal and weigh in before the August 6 hearing.

• Utah Food Bank summer meals — Nolen Park (10:30–11:30 AM) and Cory B. Wride (12:30–1:30 PM), Monday–Friday through August 7. No service Thursday, July 3.

• Boys and Girls Club meals — Active at Utah County locations.

• Utility Assistance Program — 50% credit on utility bills, up to $75/month for up to three months, for households at or below 80% of area median income. Applications are open.

• Jr. Jazz Basketball — registration now open: K–8th grade open now through November 1; 9th–12th grade open through December 22. Winter season. Register here.
